Playfable is a storytelling company based in Auckland, New Zealand.
Who We Are
Playfable began in late 2022 and was officially incorporated in early 2024. The company was founded by Luke and Damien, who met through a mutual friend while collaborating on an animation project for a U.S. streaming platform.
Luke's passion for art and animation was sparked by classic Disney films like Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty and The Emperor's New Groove. Meaningful stories like The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Last of the Mohicans and Road to Perdition were also influential. With experience in both local and international animation projects, Luke brought a wealth of crucial knowledge to the team. Damien, on the other hand, had a background in storytelling, with early awards in editing and directing and a preference for properties like L.A. Confidential, The Wire, Cidade De Deus and Star Wars. Animation from Akira to Cowboy Bebop, Princess Mononoke, The Incredibles and Watership Down also had a profound impact on his artistic sensibilities. His career in the video game and animation industries established his value as a team member.
Our Vision
Despite their diverse backgrounds, Luke and Damien shared a deep admiration for meaningful and purposeful stories, reminiscent of early Disney and Lucasfilm adventures. Their collaboration on small projects quickly evolved into a shared ambition to create something more substantial, leading to the founding of Playfable around a shared vision.
At Playfable, our vision centers on family, emphasizing the father's role and strong male role models for boys. We hold that impactful stories can improve lives and take our role as storytellers seriously. We strive to create enriching and inspiring entertainment without being preachy, aiming to craft stories that ultimately enhance lives and foster positive change.
